Yep, it's the Mill Valley Film Festival's 40th year and I was lucky enough to be a part of it. And yes, there were many great films being shown and many great fires spreading all over Northern California while I was working the festival.
I was the Rafael Filmmaker Lounge Coordinator and I spent most of the time indoors avoiding the smoke and polluted air. However, many people were not so lucky having their vineyards, homes and businesses burnt to the ground.
As the intensity of the fire escalate so did the Mill Valley Film Festival: Tribute to Kristin Scott Thomas, Holly Hunter, Sean Penn, Todd Haynes and Spotlight on Dee Rees, Jason Clarke, Andrew Garfield, Centerpiece with Richard Linklater, Directors' Night with Aaron Sorkin, Closing Night with Greta Gerwig, Mind the Gap Summit, Viva el Cine, Under The Radar: 70 Years of Polish Animation, Active Cinema, the Shorts Program and MVFF Music. Thanks to Mark Fishkin and to every managers, colleagues, volunteers, members, sponsors, donors, filmmakers and everyone else who was involved in the Mill Valley Film Festival that made me feel valued and appreciated from the work I did. I hope to see everyone next year.
